Chai latte, $4.13. Ideas and inspiration, priceless.

One of my favorite things to do on the weekend is hang out at the Starbucks inside Barnes and Noble and read home decor magazines. For $4.13, the cost of a grande chai latte with soy milk, I can read about $53 worth of magazines. The best are the international mags from Australia and the UK.

Here’s what I browsed last weekend:
British Homes and Gardens
Elle Decoration – British Edition
Cottage Living Fresh Ideas Magazine (Whiten Up 49 ways to create cottage styles inspiring rooms you’ll love, 2010)
Vogue Living Australia
BBC Homes and Antiques
Better Homes and Gardens Decorating (Summer 2010 Issue)

In my reading this time I learned:

1. Wallpaper is back, final answer
2. New vocabulary words: hammam and cassis (more on that later)
3. Plum, parakeet green + gold=fun color combination
4. Refinishing a wood floor might not be that hard
5. I like paper lanterns

Do you have any favorite magazines that you love to read but don’t subscribe to? What tidbits have you learned lately?

I love Real Simple. I subscribed one year but then found myself not reading the entire magazine. I buy it every once in a while now. It’s really more like a book. The same scenario holds true for O.
